THE second-day meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the negotiation team of the signatories to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA-S EAOs) was held yesterday morning at the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Centre in Yangon.
Subsequently, NSPNC Member Lt-Gen
Khin Zaw Oo (Retired) explained and discussed the framework for reconnecting
diverse stakeholders within the peace process.
Continuing discussions on the
remaining agenda items from the first day, both sides discussed the
implementation of the peace process based on the essence of the NCA, defining a
common political framework to accommodate the differing objectives and aspirations
of EAOs in implementing a single peace process and building national
reconciliation, connecting local communities, civil society organizations,
youth and women with the peace process, and strengthening confidence-building
through credible and mutually accepted linkages to improve relations among
diverse stakeholders.
Following this, NSPNC Secretary
Lt-Gen Min Naing briefed attendees on the NSPNC’s efforts to promote national
solidarity and peace, and discussed the continued implementation of
consolidated positions emerging from the two-day discussions, as well as the
holding of more effective meetings to reach concrete agreements.
The two-day negotiations were then
formally concluded, with both sides signing and documenting mutual agreements
and common positions on the following points: modalities for future engagements
between the NSPNC and NCA-S EAOs, the formation of committees to carry out
regional peace, stability and development tasks, the participation and
cooperation of respective NCA-S EAO groups in holding public discussions and
forums across regions and states, encouraging all ethnic armed organizations to
rejoin the peace process, continuously implementing the peace process based on
the essence of the NCA, stepping up confidence-building measures, and matters
concerning humanitarian assistance.
Finally, NCA-S EAO negotiation team
leader and RCSS Secretary 1 Sao Sai Ngeng and NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae
delivered closing remarks, and the meeting was successfully concluded,
according to reports.
