THE Government regards the detection, prevention and deterrence of online fraud and online gambling syndicates, which pose serious threats to the socioeconomic well-being of regional communities and people worldwide, as a national duty. In close coordination with neighbouring governments, authorities are taking effective measures to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
Acting on intelligence
that online fraud and gambling activities were being conducted in Laihka
Township, southern Shan State, combined security task forces carried out
investigative and operations. At approximately 10:40 am yesterday, near Hopong
Village, located about 30,000 metres southeast of Laihka, security forces
uncovered makeshift facilities used for cyber-fraud operations. These comprised
a temporary workshop tent measuring 30 feet by 15 feet, a large temporary
living tent measuring 40 feet by 15 feet, a smaller living tent measuring 20
feet by 15 feet, and a temporary mess tent.
Items seized at the site
included three Starlink satellite receiver units, eight laptops, four power
stations, 20 mobile phones of various models, seven network switches, three
network routers, one large generator, 30 plastic chairs, four folding tables
and other related paraphernalia. During further combing operations in the
surrounding area, joint teams detained three Chinese nationals.
Authorities confirmed
that, following the necessary interrogations and investigations, the
apprehended suspects would face stern legal action under existing laws. The
confiscated equipment and assets would also be dealt with in accordance with
established procedures.
To eliminate online
scams and gambling activities and prevent illicit syndicates from establishing
bases in Myanmar, the Government remains actively committed to combating
cybercrime in close collaboration with neighbouring countries, regional
counterparts and international bodies.
