While on a State official visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing held a meeting with President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Mrs Samdech Khuon Sundary at 5 pm local standard time yesterday at the meeting hall of the National Assembly building.
Earlier, upon the
President’s arrival at the National Assembly building, the President of the
National Assembly warmly welcomed him, and the two leaders posed for a
documentary photo.
Following this, the
meeting commenced. The President was accompanied by Union ministers, the chief
minister of Mandalay Region, the chief minister of Mon State, senior Tatmadaw
officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, deputy ministers and officials
who were part of the delegation, while the President of the National Assembly
of Cambodia was accompanied by relevant officials from the National Assembly.
During the meeting,
discussions were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere on several topics,
including the shared historical backgrounds, cultures, traditions, religious
beliefs and experiences of Myanmar and Cambodia in striving for independence and
maintaining domestic stability, highlighting the two countries as close and
friendly partners; the long-standing historical ties and friendly relations
maintained across successive generations of leaders; the signing of friendship
and cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the
current visit; Myanmar’s successful holding of a free and fair multiparty
democratic general election and the efforts of the elected government towards
national development; Cambodia’s despatch of election observation teams during
Myanmar’s election and the congratulations extended by the Cambodian National
Assembly on the successful conduct of the polls; Myanmar’s recent political
developments and transitions; the sharing of legislative and oversight experience
between the two parliaments; the establishment of a Myanmar-Cambodia
Parliamentary Friendship Association to enhance bilateral parliamentary
cooperation; Myanmar’s prioritization of stronger relations with neighbouring
countries, ASEAN member states and other countries in the region; the promotion
of the roles of women and youth in Myanmar; and the continued strengthening of
bilateral friendship and cooperation.
Following the meeting,
President U Min Aung Hlaing and the President of the National Assembly of
Cambodia posed for a group photograph with high-ranking delegates from both
countries. Afterwards, the President of the National Assembly warmly bade
farewell to the President.
