AN Indonesian national who had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes after travelling through neighbouring countries, including Thailand, and become involved in illegal online gambling, online scams and other offences in the MyawadyShwe Kokko area of Kayin State was handed over to Indonesian authorities via Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II in accordance with legal procedures and humanitarian principles.
Myanmar and Thai officials
coordinated the necessary measures for the handover, and the relevant
deportation and transfer documents were formally transferred to Indonesian
officials.
Of the remaining 1,343 foreign
nationals awaiting transfer, 640 have faced legal action under the Myanmar
Immigration (Emergency Provisions) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. The remaining 703 foreign nationals are ready to be transferred
to their respective countries and are being provided with appropriate care and
accommodation.
Myanmar is cooperating with
neighbouring and regional countries and international organisations to identify
and take legal action against foreigners involved in online scam centres. It is
also coordinating the repatriation of foreigners stranded in or trafficked to
Myanmar to their respective countries.
