President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, who is on a State Visit to Phnom Penh, met Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet at the meeting hall of the Peace Place in the Cambodian Prime Minister’s Office at 4:20 pm local standard time yesterday.
The Cambodian Prime Minister warmly
welcomed President U Min Aung Hlaing and the high-level Myanmar delegation.
During the meeting, he expressed his pleasure at welcoming the Myanmar
delegation and recalled the President’s previous visit to Cambodia in 2017. He
described Myanmar as a trusted country and expressed appreciation for Myanmar’s
support during Cambodia’s ASEAN chairmanship.
He said he believed the talks would provide an
opportunity to further promote cooperation between the two countries in trade,
investment and other areas.
President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed
his appreciation for Cambodia’s economic development and Phnom Penh’s modern
urban development. He also thanked Cambodia for providing relief supplies and
humanitarian assistance to the Myanmar people following the major Mandalay
earthquake in 2025.
The President expressed his gratitude
for Cambodia sending a special representative to his oath-taking ceremony and
for the Cambodian Prime Minister’s congratulatory message following his
election as President. He also welcomed the participation of Cambodian election
officials as observers during the first and third phases of Myanmar’s
elections.
He thanked Cambodia for its continued support
for positive developments in Myanmar and reaffirmed his commitment to further
strengthening bilateral cooperation during his tenure as President. The two
sides exchanged views on strengthening friendship and cooperation, mutual
support at the international level, and cooperation in defence and security,
trade, manufacturing, investment, MSMEs, tourism, religious and cultural
affairs, education and employment.
They also discussed efforts by both
governments to combat online financial fraud and online gambling, developments
within Myanmar, cooperation within ASEAN, and closer political, economic and
social cooperation with countries in the region.
The two sides reaffirmed their
commitment to maintaining close and friendly relations, with Myanmar expressing
its intention to remain a trusted friend and partner of Cambodia. Following the
talks, a signing and exchange ceremony was held for agreements and a memorandum
of understanding between Myanmar and Cambodia.
The documents included an agreement on the
promotion and protection of investments, an agreement on the avoidance of
double taxation, an agreement on cultural cooperation, and a memorandum of
understanding on cooperation in information and media affairs.Relevant
ministers and officials from both countries signed and exchanged the documents
in the presence of President U Min Aung Hlaing and Prime Minister Samdech Hun
Manet.
Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet
later warmly accompanied and saw off President U Min Aung Hlaing following the
meeting.
