Rescue operations continue after flooding in Laymyethna Township

 

RESCUE and relief operations are continuing in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, after heavy rainfall and river erosion caused a section of the Ngawun River embankment to collapse on the night of 30 July.

The breach led to flooding in five urban wards of Laymyethna, major roads in the town area and 45 surrounding villages.

Officials from the South-West Command, together with Tatmadaw members from local battalion, Myanmar Police Force members, firefighters, rescue teams, charitable organizations and local residents, have been working together to assist and evacuate flood-affected communities.

Relief efforts include search and rescue operations, relocating belongings to safer areas, delivering food supplies, providing necessary healthcare services, reinforcing water barriers and carrying out earth-filling work to repair and strengthen the damaged embankment.

Officials from the military command have inspected the ongoing emergency response activities and coordinated necessary support measures.
