A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister at the President’s Office U Tin Aung San visited Iran from 1 to 5 July at the invitation of the Iranian government to attend the state funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The
delegation arrived in Tehran on 2 July, where they were welcomed by senior
officials from Iran’s Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During discussions at the airport, both sides exchanged views on Iran’s current
situation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral
friendship, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing collaboration on
regional and international issues for mutual benefit.
On 3 July,
the Myanmar delegation attended the state funeral at Imam Khomeini Mosalla
Mosque in Tehran. They were received by Iranian Vice-President Mohammad Reza
Aref, the President’s Chief of Staff, and the Interior Minister.
During the
ceremony, the Union Minister paid his respects to the late Ayatollah alongside
Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and met senior Iranian leaders,
including the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Justice, and the Foreign
Minister. On behalf of the Government of Myanmar, he conveyed condolences and
sympathy over the former Supreme Leader’s passing.
The state
funeral was attended by presidents, prime ministers, parliamentary speakers,
foreign ministers, senior representatives and religious leaders from more than
100 countries.
The Myanmar
delegation returned to Yangon yesterday evening, where they were welcomed back
at Yangon International Airport by regional ministers and government
officials.
