In preparation for the upcoming 2024 National Sports Festival, the organizing committee held a meeting yesterday morning at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw to conduct the preliminary schedule draw for team sports. Based on the committee’s decision, ten team sports, including football, futsal, volleyball, basketball, Sepak Takraw, badminton, traditional cane ball, table tennis, tennis, and cricket, will be featured in competitions across state and regional levels.
Deputy Minister U Htein Lin, chair of the
National Sports Festival Organizing and Methods Committee, noted its importance
in raising the country’s athletic standards, fostering unity across states,
regions, and ministries, and encouraging national participation in sports
activities. The event aims to nurture future generations of athletes,
particularly in preparation for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games and other
international competitions.
The games will include six sports at the
ministry level, 23 sports at the state and regional level, and four adaptive
sports. To ensure fairness, participating teams will adhere to set guidelines
for accommodation, transport, meals, and training.
Following this, the committee proceeded
with the draw for team sports, determining initial groupings. Officials,
department directors, and representatives from relevant sports federations and
state and regional organizations attended the meeting.
