Malicious media spreads false reports of arson by security forces in Mindat

 

MALICIOUS news media outlets have been circulating false reports that security personnel are carrying out continuous arson attacks in Mindat, Chin State. According to these false claims, local security forces allegedly set fire to vacant government staff residences and empty houses in the Irrigation Department Office compound in the western neighbourhood of Mindat on the evening of 3 November.

Upon enquiry with a local security official, it was confirmed that the reports about security personnel burning vacant houses were false. Subversive news media have been using these fabricated reports to spur fear among residents in Mindat intentionally and to discourage locals from returning to the area.
