Illegal trade crackdown nets K854M in two days

 


UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade continue effectively by the law.

On 2 November, the combined teams seized nine kinds of industrial materials, two kinds of foodstuffs, two kinds of consumer goods and animal feed valued at K238.59 million without official documents from ten containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint and a Mitsubishi Fuso truck and a Higer bus (worth approximately K100 million) carrying three kinds of foodstuffs and a kind of consumer goods worth K12.2 million without official documents at the Ywathagyi Dry Port. The action was conducted in compliance with Customs procedures.

Similarly, on 4 November, the combined teams conducted inspections and seized illegal lead and related materials for mining worth K16.45 million in Bokpyin Township, a boat (worth approximately K140 million) that was docked at the jetty carrying three kinds of industrial materials worth K16 million in Kawthoung Township and illegal coal weighing 31.040 tonnes worth K248,320 in Myeik Township. The action was taken under the Myanmar Mining Law, the Export and Import Law and the Forest Law.

Additionally, the combined teams seized a Shacman tractor head with a trailer (worth approximately K86 million) carrying consumer goods worth K32.5 million at the Myitnge checkpoint, a Dongfeng tractor head with a trailer (estimated value of K86 million) carrying consumer goods worth K66.975 million without official documents beyond the Singaing Tollgate, a JAC bus (estimated value of K30 million) carrying two types of consumer goods worth K3 million without official documents near Shwethanlwin Tollgate in Phayagyi and illegal teak weighing 4.840 tonnes worth K4.25 million from a Canter truck (worth approximately K22 million) near Pyidaungsu road in Shwepyitha Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 22 arrests on 2 and 4 November, confiscating illegal goods worth approximately K854 million.
