Over 800 suspected scammers arrested in Myanmar-China joint operation

 


More than 800 people suspected of being online scammers were arrested in a joint police operation by Myanmar and China.

The two countries conducted the operation in Muse in Shan State (North) in September 2024. During the operation, 313 Chinese, including 45 fugitives and 557 Myanmar nationals, totalling 870 people suspected of being online scammers in Muse of Shan State, were arrested and action was taken in accordance with law.

Actions were taken against a total of 313 Chinese citizens including 45 fugitives, under the existing law of Myanmar, and they were transferred to China via entrance/exist of Ruili, Yunnan province, on 26 September 2024.

Myanmar Police Force is making efforts to fight against online scams and has cooperated with law enforcement bodies of neighbouring countries to combat cross-border online frauds and gambling in accordance with the laws and procedures of the country.
