Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing received Ms Hai Kyung Jun, Director of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau Office, and her delegation at the ministry’s reception hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
They
discussed the ongoing implementation of the repatriation process for displaced
persons from Rakhine State under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between
the Ministry, UNDP, and UNHCR, the extension of the MoU’s term for continued
cooperation, visa issues for UNHCR foreign staff and coordination with relevant
departments for tax exemptions on imported goods.
The
talks further covered arrangements for the travel and accommodation of local
officials in Buthidaung and Maungtaw, as well as the ministry’s readiness to
assist with any necessary preparations. They also explored plans for effective
humanitarian aid delivery as Rakhine State stabilizes. Both sides exchanged
views openly on the current cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP-UNHCR,
ensuring that efforts would continue smoothly.
