THE delegation led by Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung joined the 17th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (17th ANCM) hosted by the Philippine Navy via videoconferencing yesterday.
First, the Philippine Navy Vice-Admiral Toribio Dulinayan Adaci Jr made an opening speech. Then, the Navy chiefs approved the meeting minutes of the 16th ANCM and the permanent joint secretary of ANCM briefed the regional maritime security.
The ASEAN Navy Chiefs exchanged views on the topic of Synergy at Sea: Regional Cohesion for Peace and Stability.
Admiral Moe Aung discussed the chances and challenges of ASEAN as it is a strategic location of sea trade, the role of ASEAN Centrality, effective uses of different advantages of ASEAN navies, trust building through cooperation while overcoming challenges, ASEAN to implement activities without external interference standing at Driving Role and promote the maritime peace and stability through cooperation respecting the sovereignty of the countries.
Then, the Navy Chiefs focused on the 9th ASEAN Navy Young Officers’ Interaction (ANYOI) hosted by Brunei Navy in 2022, the 18th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) Plus Experts Working Group on Maritime Security and Tabletop Exercises 2023 hosted by Thai Navy and ASEAN Cadet Seminar and AESAN Cadet Sail and 10th ANYOI 2023 hosted by Indonesia Navy.
The Indonesia Navy discussed ANCM Road Map 2024- 2032 while Alternate Conduct of ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercises (AMNEX) and ANCM Guidelines for Maritime Interaction (GMI) Workshop and Draft by the Philippine Navy. They also discussed joint naval exercises to be conducted in 2023.
Then, they discussed the estimated timetable and video clips to hold the 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting-18th ANCM in Myanmar.
