ASEAN Summit held in Singapore from 11 to 15 November decided and approved
ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management
(AHA Centre) to assess and evaluate requirements and work together and help in
receiving returnees who were displaced from Rakhine State.
As
per the decision, representatives of ASEAN Secretariat Dr. Sithu Pe Thein and
Ms. Annisa Nurul Wahidah, AHA Centre representatives Mr. Armel Capili and Mr.
Janggam Adhityawarma arrived Myanmar on 23 November and met with Disaster
Management Department Director General and officials.
On
23, 24 and 25 November preliminary coordination meeting with personnel from
Disaster Management Department was held and discussed about representatives
from ASEAN Secretariat and AHA Centre observing the returnees receiving works,
provide necessary cooperation and help and evaluate requirements.
From
27 to 30 November two representatives from ASEAN Secretariat accompanied by
officials from Disaster Management Department will conduct a preliminary study
visit to reception centres in Rakhine State Maungtaw town.
