The
arrival of international tourists entering Myanmar through Tachilek, a Myanmar
and Thai border town, has exceeded 282,000 during the past four months,
according to a report of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
Between
1 April and 2 August this year, the town hosted a total of 282,907 foreign
travellers, including 277,244 day-trippers, 3,242 visitors who joined
Mongphyat-Kengtung trip and 2,421 entering the town by air.
Of
the total foreign visitors, Thai tourists made up the majority.

Tayza Min, assistant director from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism
(Tachilek branch office), said the Thai tourists and others visited well-known
destinations, including Talaw market, Bayintnaung statue, Myoma market in
Wunkaung Ward, Koemyosin spirit house, the replica of Shwedagon Pagoda, Padaung
Village, Pintork waterfall, Chinese temples and some other Buddhist monasteries.
Between
20 July and 2 August this year, 29,253 international visitors toured Myanmar
through the Tachilek border point of entry.
As
part of eco-tourism development plan, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is
accelerating its attempts to implement more community-based tourism projects
and border tourism.
