Myeik tourism association meets with businessmen from Thai sister city to promote bilateral tourism

Businessmen from tourism associations of sister cities Myeik and Parchuap Khiri Khan and relevant officials discussed promotion of bilateral tourism at the Grand Jade Hotel in Myeik, Taninthayi Region yesterday.

“This event aims to bolster tourism in the border cities of Thailand and Myanmar. We can visit Parchuap Khiri Khan only with temporary border pass. Only Thai citizens, and not third-country foreigners, can visit Myanmar through Parchuap Khiri Khan province. They usually visit through cultural tours, or are here on pilgrimage or recreation”, said Dr. Thein Swe Myint, chair of Myeik Tourism Entrepreneurs Association.

About 60 businessmen from Prachuap Khiri Khan and 40 entrepreneurs and officials from Myeik district were present at the meeting. Tourism operators from Prachuap Khiri Khan introduced a tour trip from Prachuap to Hua Hin. Out of 30 tour companies operating in Myeik District, 22 are listed as members of Myeik Tourism Entrepreneurs Association. There are around 200 islands in Myeik District, and the association guides visitors to the following islands — Smart, Dome, Harris Island or Lay Kyun, according to an official from the association.

U Myint Zaw, assistant director of Myeik District General Administration Department, and officials and businessmen from Myeik discussed tourism matters with the Prachuap Khiri Khan association. Later, they exchanged gifts and took commemorative photos.
