The second
day of the All-Round Youth Development Festival was held yesterday at Yangon
University, with a crowd of both young and old participating.
The
festival involves literary movements, cultural activities, sports events, IT
and scientific innovation activities as well as a book market, youth knowledge
enrichment programmes, forums, cultural performances and entertainment.
The sports
activity of the festival was launched by a group walk in the morning followed
by games such as a tug of war, a pillow fight, a martial arts show and
basketball scoring in front of Sagaing Hall and Bago Hall.
Crowds
were formed in front of the convocation hall of Yangon University taking
photographs of each other, while near the Thit Pote tree, book shops, booths
showing pictures of well-known authors and writers, a rare book display and the
Myanmar Radio and Television band drew interest for the youngsters.
The Akayar
Women’s Group conducted talks on the topic, “Sexuality and Value”, while a
group led by actress Khaing Hnin Wei performed plays on understanding youths.
The Q&A on youth education held by the Myanmar
Committee for Women’s Affair’s was also an attraction.
In the
literature activity launched in the afternoon, an English skills competition
and a debate in English were held at Nilar Yatu Hall and Panglong Hall in
Yangon University’s Department of Economics, where youths participated
actively.
Kachin,
Kayah, Kayin and Chin traditional dances, and portrait and caricature drawing
in front of the Art Halls were also a major attraction.
Informational
displays of ethnic national dress, traditional musical instruments, food and
landmark sites were shown in photos and videos. Traditional dresses of eight
ethnic nationals were shown. There was a quiz section as well as a photo
studio, where visitors could take photographs of themselves in ethnic national
costumes.
A
technology exhibition on the grounds between Yangon University convocation hall
and the University of Economics showing invented scientific products and
computer technologies in booths was a popular site.
Information
on job opportunities was showcased at the job fair exhibition booths in front
of the Yangon University of Economics, while booths on Adipati Road educated
the youths about the bad effects of drug use. Eliminating the abandonment of
newborn children was also showcased. Paintings, handicrafts as well as food
were also made available.
An amateur
mounting climbing practice programme was also made available by the Myanmar
Hiking and Mountaineering Federation, along with other amusement programmes.
The
All-Round Youth Development Festival information and recording sub-committee of
the Ministry of Information issued news and information on the festival in a
timely manner through daily newspapers and handouts.
The Youth
All-Round Development Festival is held by the government with an aim for youth
in Myanmar to share information, knowledge, experience and ethical values and
to build a future human society with their good views and ideas. It will be
held until 3 December.
