A mass
walk event, one of the activities of Youth All-Round Development Festival, was
held yesterday morning at the entrance (Adipati Road) to Yangon University,
Kamayut Township, Yangon.
Union Minister for Information and chairman of the
Youth All-Round Development Festival Leading Committee Dr Pe Myint, festival
leading committee member Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi, heads
of government departments, teachers and students from universities, sports
schools under Department of Sports and Physical Education, basic education
schools and sports lovers enthusiastically participated in the event.
People who
wanted to participate in the event started to show up at the Adipati Road
entrance of Yangon University around 5 a.m. At 6 a.m, festival leading
committee chairman Union Minister Dr. Pe Myint fired off the starting pistol to
begin the mass walk.
Union
Minister Dr. Pe Myint and Union Minister Dr. Myo Theing Gyi then led the
department heads, teachers and students from universities, sports schools under
Department of Sports and Physical Education, basic education schools wearing
T-shirts with Youth All-Round Development Festival logo on a mass walk along
Pyay Road, Inya Road and University Avenue around the Yangon University.
At the
Adipati Road finishing line in Yangon University, the mass walk participants
were provided with refreshments and the day’s issues of Myanma Alin and Kyaemon
newspapers.
Youth
All-Round Development Festival is being held from December 1 to 3 and involves
youth debates, talks, English ability competitions, youth discussions, meeting
with young artists, technical exhibits, rare books display, photo and history
show of distinguished writers and authors, book sales, singing, dancing,
playing musical instruments, sports, recreational and competitive activities.
Inventions
by universities are also shown in display booths while job fairs and youth food
stalls are included as part of the festival and entrance is free for all. Youth
All-Round Development Festival was jointly organized by Ministry of
Information, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Ministry of Education,
Ministry of Sports and Health and Yangon Region government with an aim for
youths to share information, knowledge, experience and morality and for future
Myanmar society to be established with the good views and thoughts of the
youth.
