India is likely to increase the number of scholarship students from Myanmar it accepts compared with previous years, according to remarks made at a ceremony commemorating the 63rd Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day, held on the evening of 15 September at the India Centre in Yangon.
During the event,
Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Abhay Thakur stated that the Embassy of India
issued nearly 500 student visas to Myanmar nationals last year and expressed
hope that the number of Myanmar scholarship students accepted by India would
increase in the coming years.
Currently, India
provides 400 civilian ITEC scholarships and 250 defence-related ITEC
scholarships annually. These training programmes cover a wide range of
multidisciplinary fields, including public administration, law, leadership,
security, healthcare, digital technology, English, agriculture, financial
management and other specialized skills, thereby contributing to the
development of a skilled professional workforce in Myanmar.
