Ethnic language support programmes to reduce school dropout rates

ETHNIC language support programmes aim to reduce school dropout rates caused by language barriers. Since the 2017-2018 academic year, the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and the Ministry of Education have jointly appointed ethnic language teaching assistants and teachers to support these programmes.

Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Than Maung made the remarks during a meeting with ethnic literature teaching assistants (TAs) and ethnic language teachers (LTs) from Yangon Region at the ministry’s regional office.

He said the meeting was held to discuss challenges faced by teachers and seek solutions to improve ethnic language teaching programmes, encouraging teachers to openly share difficulties encountered in their work.

During the meeting, leaders of ethnic literature and cultural organizations and ethnic language teachers discussed issues including opportunities for permanent appointments and the presentation of awards to outstanding students at educational ceremonies.

The Union Minister coordinated with relevant officials to address the challenges faced by teachers and support the continued development of ethnic language education.
