Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw visited flood-affected residents in Laymyethna Township, Hinthada District, to offer words of encouragement and provide essential relief supplies, including rice and food provisions. The flooding was caused by embankment subsidence and subsequent water overflow following seepage through sand layers along the Ngawun River embankment.
During a
meeting with displaced residents, the chief minister highlighted the ongoing
joint response efforts, noting that officials from various ministries,
technical experts, departmental staff, military personnel, firefighters and
local residents are working collaboratively in day and night shifts to seal and
repair the breached sections of the embankment, while the Ayeyawady Region
Government will continue to provide all necessary support and assistance.
Following
remarks by a regional Hluttaw representative, the medical officer from
Ainthabyu Station Hospital conducted a health-awareness session on preventive
measures against waterborne diseases, including diarrhoea and dengue fever. The
chief minister and officials then distributed rice rations and food supplies
directly to flood-affected families.
The
delegation subsequently visited the temporary relief site at Eiksathaya
Monastery in Saryekwin village, Laymyethna Township, to inspect relief efforts
and emergency infrastructure. To ensure uninterrupted communications, a
Business-to-Business (B2B) satellite terminal was integrated with a Cell on
Wheels (COW) mobile vehicle, restoring mobile phone and data services for local
residents. The chief minister also inspected temporary medical stations
established by the Laymyethna Township Public Health Department and the
Department of Traditional Medicine, as well as the storage of relief materials,
and coordinated the provision of necessary resources on site.
Additionally,
the chief minister presented financial assistance to GAD personnel and their
families affected by the floods in Laymyethna Township. While in Hinthada, he
accepted a donation of 1,000 emergency relief kits from Rotary Myanmar for
flood victims in Laymyethna Township.
On 15
August, the chief minister visited the university and encouraged those
participating in the cleaning activities to keep Hinthada University clean and
green. In addition, the chief minister received cash donations and relief
supplies from well-wishers.
During the
visit, he inspected bank-erosion prevention works in Myanaung Township.
