DEPUTY Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun attended the 2nd Sustainable Maritime Industry Conference (SMIC) 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Saudi’s Deputy Minister for Transport
and Logistic Services, Secretary-General of The International Organization for
Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA) Mr Francis Zachariae made remark stating the
over 80 per cent of shipment of world trade via maritime, comprehensive
cooperation to ensure the sustainable maritime, and the Secretary-General of
International Maritime Organization (IMO) clarified the theme of World Maritime
Day 2025 “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity” via video message.
The meeting continued with different
topics such as effective use of vessels with the minimum of energy, maritime
insurance and financial matters, implementation of carbon reduction strategies
in maritime transport sector, developing a sustainable development roadmap for
small and medium-sized maritime enterprises, role of digital technologies in
promoting maritime capacity, safety and sustainable development, maritime
cybersecurity in digital era, and women’s leadership in maritime sector
transformation.
Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Tun met
Mr Eng Sulaiman A Al Mazroua, Saudi Minister for Transport and Logistics
Services, and talked about the active participation of Myanmar in conserving
the maritime and implementation works following the MARPOL. He also talked
about further participation in ASEAN maritime safety and environmental
conservation programmes, other activities of BIMSTEC and Mekong-Ganga, port
partnership with China and India and technical cooperation with Korea and
Singapore.
He then expressed his willingness to
work together in work plans of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as
Saudi Arabia prioritized clean energy, sustainable transport and digital
transformation under the 2030 vision, which are the same vision, resources and
objectives as Myanmar.
The meeting was held under the theme
of “Sailing Towards and Sustainable Future”, and representatives from
international organizations and maritime experts from 90 countries attended the
event.
