The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of Mr Kim Chong IL as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, with residence in Yangon.
Mr
Kim Chong IL was born on 9 November 1963. He graduated from the University of
International Relations in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in 1984
and from the National University of Modern Languages in the Islamic Republic of
Pakistan, in 1987. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an officer in
the Asia Department in 1987 and served in various capacities at headquarters
and abroad.
From
1991 to 1996, he served as a Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Democratic
People’s Republic of Korea to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. From 1996 to
2001, he was an officer in the Department responsible for Southeast, Southwest
and Oceania countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He then served as a
First Secretary at the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to
the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from 2001 to 2004, after which he returned to
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the same department, working there until
2011.
From
2011 to 2014, Mr Kim Chong IL served as a national staff member at the UNICEF
office in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He then served as a
Counsellor at the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the
Islamic Republic of Pakistan from 2014 to 2018. From 2018 to 2020, he worked as
a Senior Officer in the Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From
2020 to 2022, he served as a Senior Officer in the Asia Department II, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs. Since 2022, he has been serving as Deputy Director-General
of Asia Department II in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr
Kim Chong IL is married and has two children.
