No immediate reports of damage or
casualties were available following a slight earthquake which was recorded at
2:26 am Myanmar Standard Time today.
The earthquake with the magnitude
of 3.8 on the Richter Scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar jolted about 18
miles south of Sedoktara Township, Magway Region, latitude 20.22°N, longitude
94.29°E, depth 15 kilometers about 78 miles southwest of NyaungU seismological
observatory, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
Approximately 79 earthquakes –twenty six in
Bago Region, eighteen in Sagaing Region, seven in Shan State, five in Magway Region,
four each in Chin State and Mandalay Region, three each in Nay Pyi Taw Council
Area, Yangon Region and Rakhine State and two in Ayeyawady Region—hit Myanmar
during the period from 1 January to 20 May this year.
