Volunteeryouths
of UEHRD rendered humanitarian assistance at villages in the northern sector of
Maungtaw Township in northern Rakhine State yesterday morning.
“We
are the third contingent of the UEHRD youths arriving in Maungtaw region.
Altogether 23 of us are youths from various parts of the Union and we are
joined by 10 local youths. Today we provided humanitarian assistance at five
villages in the north of Maungtaw Township. First we collect the household list
of each family under our assistance program. The next day we conveyed the aids
by trucks to the villages, said Ye Yint Aung, a youth volunteer of the UEHRD.
The
assistance program came in two categories – half unit for a three-member family
and the full unit for a family with more than three. The provisions included
rice, cooking oil, salt, green gram, onion, potato and canned fish. Nearly 1000
persons of 170 households got aids yesterday.
“Normally,
commodity prices are high here. The prices further increased after the
incident. We have no time to grow crops. We are happy and thankful for
providing personal and kitchen goods, said U Min Swe,” a resident of one of the
villages.
The
volunteer youths of UEHRD of the Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance
Resettlement and Development in Rakhine State will stay at the region till 4
January during which they will make field tours to ascertain that fair share of
their assistance reaches the right persons.
