In
the opening match of the 2017 AFF Futsal Championship, Myanmar earned a big win
over Brunei by a score of 13-0 in Group A competition yesterday, and showed the
crowd at Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam that they came to play.
The
win for Myanmar is crucial to their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals, and
in the process qualifying for the Asian Futsal Championship.
Myanmar
attacked relentlessly from the start, pressing their opponents at every
opportunity. Even though Brunei defended to the best of their ability, they
could not stop their opponents, allowing the first goal in the third minute of
play with a solid strike from Pyae Phyo Maung.
Myanmar’s
Sai Pyone Aung also created two quick strikes at the 7-minute mark.
By
the break, Brunei was trailing by eight goals. Myanmar’s other goals were
netted by Naing Ye Kyaw at 27 and 29 minutes, Aung Aung at 16 and 38 minutes,
Hlaing Min Tun at the 10-minute mark, Aung Zin Oo at 20 minutes and Kyaw Kyaw
Tun at the 36-minute mark. After the opening goal, Phyo Maung added three more
goals at the 14, 15 and 28 minutes.
“It
was a great start for the team. We played to our strength and we maintained
concentration throughout,” said Myanmar head coach U Htay Myint.
Myanmar
will rest today while host Vietnam will play their first Group A game against
the Philippines in the evening.
Myanmar
and the Philippines will meet on 28 October.
