High Commissioner for Refugees-UNHCR Mr. Filippo Grandi held talks with the
authorities in Maungtaw yesterday over several issues including internally
displaced persons, security and cooperation between the UNHCR and Myanmar.
Following the meeting, the UN delegation visited a sewing training course
conducted by the Bridge Asia Japan-BAJ at Alethankyaw Village.
More than 1,400 women have received the vocational skill at the training course at the BAJ Office which has been conducted since 1992 as part of cooperation between Myanmar and UNHCR in attempts to support the peaceful coexistence of the people in the area.

During the visit, the UNHCR Chief also met officers at No. 1 Police Force Commanding Office (Kyikanpyin) and discussed matters relating to promoting socio-economy of the people, peaceful coexistence and building trust between communities. The UN delegation also visited the site of Wapeik Village and viewed the village resettlement situation.
