Avian Influenza cases occurred in Myanmar for the first time in 2006, and so
far eight cases have happened in the country up to 2016.

Taninthayi Region An outbreak of avian flue at a farm in Wekyunhteinthit Ward
in Dawei, Dawei District was announced on 26-7-2017 following that the dead chicken
were confirmed to have contracted with Influenza Type A/H5N1 Positive. Measures
are being taken to control the virus in accordance with the steps of the bird
flu prevention and control plan.

On 28-7-2017, some chicken at a house in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region, and
a dead chicken was sent to the veterinary laboratory in Yangon. Following the
test with the(RT-PCR & Real Time PCR), the chicken were confirmed on
29-7-2017 to have infected with Influenza Type A/ H5N1 Positive. Measures are being
taken to control the virus in accordance with the steps of the bird flu
prevention and control plan.

Peoples in other regions and states are urged to follow the following
instructions in order to prevent spread of the bird flu and not to be infected
with the virus.
(A)To
take precaution measures to prevent migratory birds from meeting with chicken,
ducks, quails and birds at homes and farms.
(B)To
pay special attention to bio safety at chicken, duck and quails firms.
(C)To
carry out quarantine measures systematically at chicken and duck firms and
chicken and duck markets, and to clean regularly and to follow quarantine
regulations in order to prevent infectious virus.
(D)
To wear protective gears including masks and gloves when workers go the chicken
farms and to wash their hands thoroughly after holding chicken and to carry out
personal hygiene when they leave the firms. .
(E)To
cook or boil chicken and eggs for food.
(F)When
chicken or birds died incidentally, peoples are urged to inform it to local
authorities, Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.
(G)To
cooperate with departments and organizations concerned to prevent the bird flu
and diagnostic assessments.
