ASEAN military leaders for united change

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is in the Philippines, attended the 14th ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM) held in Manila’s Sofitel Hotel yesterday morning.


Chief of Staff of the Philippines Army General Eduardo M. Año delivered the opening speech. This was followed by the Philippines Army Deputy Chief of Staff (Intelligence) disclosing the results of the 14th ASEAN Military Intelligence Informal Meeting and the Philippines Army Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) disclosing the results of the 6th ASEAN Military Operations Informal Meeting.

Next, General Eduardo Año and other military leaders discussed on various topics. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing spoke on possible cooperative strategies concerning maritime security in Southeast Asia.

Afterwards, discussions were made on the ASEAN militaries’ 2017-2018 two-year project followed by the various military leaders signing the joint statement of the 14th ACDFIM.

General Eduardo Año then delivered the closing speech and transferred the role of host country for the 15th ACDFIM to LtGen Perry Lim of the Singapore Armed Forces.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing then met separately with Malaysia’s Commander-in-Chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Bin, a delegation led by Vietnam’s Deputy Minister for Defense Lt-Gen Phan Van Giang, and a delegation led by Deputy C-in-C of Cambodian Armed Forces General Eth Sarath.

The Senior General discussed more goodwill tours between the countries, transferring of military trainees, joint security efforts and anti-terrorism efforts.
