Vice President U Myint Swe attends 68th Anniversary of India’s Republic Day

U Myint Swe, Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and wife Daw Khin Thet Htay attended the 68th anniversary celebration reception of India’s Republic Day, held at the residence of the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar in Yangon yesterday evening.

Present at the ceremony were U Aye Tha Aung, Deputy Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw, U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government, U Win Thein, Chief Minister of Bago Region, Lt General Tun Tun Naung of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) and wife, Brigadier General Myo Zaw Thein, Commander of Yangon Command, Ministers of Yangon Region Cabinet, Tatmataw officials, ambassadors from foreign embassies, military attaches and responsible officials from embassies, resident representatives of UN organizations and invited guests.

First of all, Vice President U Myint Swe and H.E. Mr Vikram Misri, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, took places on the platform and paid a salute to the Indian and Myanmar national flags with the accompaniment of national anthems, followed by a greeting from the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar.

In his address, Vice President U Myint Swe said: “We noted that there had been friendly relations between Myanmar and India since 4 January 1948. It is not necessary to specifically express that similarity in cultures and traditions between the two countries led to mutual consolidation. Besides, the two countries have strong desires for the peace, stability and development in our regions and in the world. I would happily like to recount recent state visits to the Republic of India, made by President U Htin Kyaw, and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor. The visits have not only shown continued maintenance of bilateral friendly relations but also opening a new chapter of cooperation between the two countries. The two countries conducted themselves with good close ties in the regional and international arenas for years, based on similar experiences. Now we hope for increased cooperation in the sectors of transport, communication, education, science, technology, agriculture and culture. We greatly value the support and cooperation of the successive governments of the Republic of India in our efforts to rebuild our country. We wish the Republic of India further success in developing the country and we hope to have deeper relations between the two countries.”

Then, the Vice President and the Indian ambassador to Myanmar posed for a documentary photo, together with those present at the ceremony. Afterwards, the Indian Ambassador and wife hosted a dinner for the Vice President and wife and invited guests.
