THE Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees has announced that an oil-lamp offering ceremony will be held on the eve of the coming Thadingyut full moon day, while an Abhidhamma Day ceremony will be held on the same day.
During the oil-lamp
offering ceremony on the eve of the Thadingyut full moon day, devotees will
carry illuminated pagoda-shaped lamps around the pagoda platform. In addition,
10,000 oil lamps will be lit and offered across the entire pagoda platform.
“An oil-lamp offering
ceremony will be held on the evening of 25 October, the eve of the Thadingyut
full moon day. At 5 pm, we will light the pagoda-shaped lamps and carry them
around the pagoda platform. On the morning of the full moon day, which is Abhidhamma
Day, we will make a dawn food offering and then hold the Abhidhamma Day
ceremony,” said an official from the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees.
