THE government attaches great importance to combatting online scams and online gambling as a matter of national responsibility. To prevent these activities from resuming in illegal buildings in Shwe Kokko, where they were previously carried out on a large scale, systematic efforts are being made to demolish the buildings.
In this regard, demolition work has continued on a five-storey building in Shwe Kokko Phase II that was used for online scam and gambling activities. As of today, 96 per cent of the demolition work on the building has been completed using heavy machinery. Demolition of another five-storey building is also 50 per cent complete. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to place explosive charges in a 13-storey building.
Of the 63 buildings designated for demolition in Shwe Kokko Phase II, 25 are to be demolished using heavy machinery, four using explosives, and 34 manually, floor by floor, because they are located close to residential buildings. Demolition work is being carried out systematically according to these classifications. Of the four buildings designated for demolition using explosives, three have already been demolished. The remaining buildings are also to be demolished systematically.
The government is placing special emphasis on eliminating online scams and online gambling, which have emerged as threats to global socioeconomic stability and national security. According to reports, it is working with neighbouring and regional countries to crack down on these activities with the aim of eradicating them completely and permanently.
