UNION Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin met the Belarusian Energy Minister yesterday afternoon to discuss the implementation of the bilateral roadmap for cooperation in the electric power and energy sectors.
The Belarusian minister said the
country mainly generates electricity from nuclear power and natural gas,
highlighting its extensive experience in nuclear power
plant operations and advanced technologies for gas and electricity transmission and
distribution that help minimize losses. He reaffirmed Belarus’s readiness to
cooperate with Myanmar.
The Union minister
stressed the importance of training skilled professionals and
engineers for nuclear power plant operations. He expressed interest in
sending Myanmar
personnel to Belarus for on-the-job training in power plant operations as the
country plans to start 500-KV transmission line management, monitoring and
maintenance.
He also proposed
cooperation in reducing technical power losses in transmission lines, switchyards and
transformers, replacing
ageing high-tension cables with stronger, more conductive composite cables
manufactured in Belarus, minimizing electricity and
natural gas losses, and upgrading and expanding fertilizer plants.
The two sides exchanged
views on promoting
cooperation and development
in the electric power and energy sectors.
On 28 and 29 October,
the union minister also visited transformer manufacturing
facilities, design departments for natural gas and
electricity distribution networks, control centres, electric cable manufacturing
facilities and a petrochemical plant in Minsk.
