The Bagan Ancient Cultural Heritage Zone was bustling with visitors on the full moon day of Tawthalin, signalling the revival of the region’s tourism season.
After a
quiet rainy season, visitors began arriving in Bagan this week, with many
coming to visit the area while attending the Popa Bodaw festival, and the site
became active again with travellers yesterday.
“We are
happy to see visitors returning to the area. It has only been a few days since
visitors started arriving, and many of them are here to attend the Popa Bodaw
festival. As the festival will be held on
28 September, Bagan is expected to become busier with travellers from
that day onward, as the Thadingyut travel season is beginning. We can say that
tourism in Bagan is coming back to life. Bagan is peaceful, and the weather is
pleasant, so we warmly invite travellers to visit,” said secretary U Tin Hla Oo
of the Htilominlo Pagoda.
On the full
moon day, visitors also paid homage at Manuha Temple by offering alms, food,
oil lamps and fruits, while local communities organized traditional
performances and religious activities.
More than
12,000 visitors visited Shwezigon Pagoda, over 6,200 visited the Buu Pagoda,
and more than 1,500 visited the Htilominlo Pagoda. Other major pagodas and
temples also hosted domestic and some international visitors on the full moon
day of Tawthalin.
The return
of travellers has revived local tourism businesses and employment
opportunities. Residents warmly invite visitors to explore Bagan’s ancient
temples, pagodas and cultural heritage sites.
