Union Minister for Women’s Affairs Dr Thet Thet Zin received a delegation led by Mr Peter John Cross, Acting Country Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Myanmar, at the ministry yesterday.
Dr Thet Thet Zin
briefed the delegation on efforts to empower women, implement the National
Strategic Plan for Advancement of Women (NSPAW), promote women’s development
and prevent violence against women. She also highlighted programmes for rural
and young women and Myanmar’s participation in ASEAN mechanisms on women,
womens and children’s rights, and women, peace and security.
Mr Peter John Cross
said UNOPS plans to implement livelihood support programmes for women and
initiatives to prevent and protect against gender-based violence. He expressed
UNOPS’ intention to sign an agreement with the ministry to implement the
programmes jointly.
The meeting also
discussed continued cooperation in promoting, protecting and supporting women.
