The Government is taking measures to combat online fraud and gambling, which threaten global socioeconomic stability and national security. Action is being taken against those operating in border areas, as well as those committing such offences domestically. As part of these efforts, Tatmadaw columns arrested 23 Chinese nationals involved in online gambling in Kehsi Township, Shan State (South).
According to residents, people involved in online gambling had been operating from temporary structures in the area. Tatmadaw troops conducting security operations intensified their investigations and operations against such activities.
Yesterday morning, 10 Chinese
nationals who had illegally crossed the border into Myanmar to operate online
gambling businesses were arrested at a location about 9,900 metres north of
Wamphun village and 2,900 metres north-east of Ponlon village in Kehsi
Township.
The troops seized two temporary shelters, a workshop shelter, a kitchen
shelter, four Starlink sets, 26 mobile phones, two tablets, a laptop, eight
network extension boxes, 12 Wi-Fi devices, four cash machines, a large
generator, two refrigerators and related equipment.
The security operations continued, resulting in the arrest of six more Chinese
nationals about 3,000 metres north-west of Ponlon village and seven others
about 3,900 metres north of Ponlon village. The total number of Chinese
nationals arrested in connection with online gambling activities therefore
reached 23.
Following the completion of investigations, legal action will be taken against the arrested individuals in accordance with existing laws, while the seized equipment will be dealt with in accordance with procedures. Authorities will also systematically demolish illegally constructed residential and commercial structures and continue efforts to eradicate online gambling and fraud activities in the area.
