The opening ceremony of the “Weekly Cinema, Shared Stories” Chinese Film Festival and the screening of the Shenzhou-13 space documentary was held at the National Theatre in Yangon on yesterday. The event aims to promote cultural exchanges between Myanmar and China and strengthen mutual understanding and friendship, particularly among young people.
The programme was jointly organized by the China Cultural
Centre in Yangon, China Media Group (CMG) and Myanma Radio and Television
(MRTV), with support from several educational and cultural organizations.
In his opening address, Deputy Minister for Information U Ye
Tint said that film and television are powerful tools for sharing knowledge and
fostering cultural understanding. He noted that Chinese films and television
dramas have long been popular with Myanmar audiences.
The Shenzhou-13 documentary was selected to introduce Myanmar
youth to China’s achievements in space exploration and technology, while
encouraging interest in science and engineering. The event also featured
AI-assisted exhibitions of Myanmar and Chinese intangible cultural heritage, a
children’s art exhibition entitled “Our Planet Throughout Your Eyes”, and
demonstrations of traditional Chinese calligraphy and paper-cutting.
According to the Director of the China Cultural Centre in
Yangon, a three-month screening programme has been prepared, featuring
historical, technological and inspirational films, including ‘The Battle at
Lake Changjin’.
Weekly film and documentary screenings will be held at the
China Cultural Centre in Yangon every Saturday from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm to
promote greater cultural understanding between the two countries.
