U Tin Aung San, National
Security Adviser and Union Minister at the Office of the President, received a
delegation led by Mr Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of Thailand’s
National Security Council, at the Office of the President in Nay Pyi Taw
yesterday afternoon.
The two sides exchanged
views on strengthening bilateral relations, border security and cooperation,
efforts to combat transnational crime, online scams and drug trafficking. They
also discussed cooperation in information security, border crossings and bilateral
trade, environmental conservation, and ASEAN regional engagement and
development.
Deputy ministers,
departmental heads and officials from the President’s Office, the Ministry of
Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry
of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, and the Ministry of
Commerce attended the meeting.
In the evening, U Tin
Aung San hosted a dinner for the Thai delegation at Jasmine Nay Pyi Taw Hotel.
Both U Tin Aung San and Mr Chatchai Bangchuad delivered remarks, while artists
from the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism performed cultural programmes
during the dinner. The two sides later exchanged gifts, and floral bouquets
were presented to the performers.
The Thai delegation
arrived in Myanmar on 26 August. During its visit, the delegation toured the
Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office) in Yangon, the National Museum in Nay
Pyi Taw and the White Elephant Pavilion, and paid visits to the Shwedagon
Pagoda in Yangon and the Maravijaya Buddha Image in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay
Pyi Taw, where they offered flowers, drinking water, candles and other
offerings.
