President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently on an official visit to the Russian Federation, met Head of the Republic of Tuva Mr Vladislav Khovalyg at the Government House of the Republic of Tuva in Kyzyl at 7 pm local standard time yesterday.

Upon arrival at the Government House, where the meeting was held, President U Min Aung Hlaing was warmly welcomed by Chairman of the Supreme Khural (Parliament) of the Republic of Tuva Mr Kara-ool Sholban and officials.

During the meeting, the Head of the Republic of Tuva warmly welcomed the high-level Myanmar delegation led by President U Min Aung Hlaing. He then briefed the President on the history and regional characteristics of Tuva, ongoing agricultural, livestock breeding and mineral production activities, and the fact that the majority of Tuva’s population practises Buddhism and shares religious traditions with Myanmar. He also expressed his desire to further promote cooperation between Myanmar and Tuva in various sectors, including religion and culture, education and tourism.

Following his remarks, President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed his appreciation to the Head of Tuva and members of the regional government for the warm welcome extended to the high-level Myanmar delegation. He said this was his first visit to Tuva and that the clean, beautiful and green mountainous landscapes he had seen had brought a sense of peace and pleasure.

The President noted that Myanmar and Russia are reliable and trusted friends. Although the two countries are geographically distant, they have maintained long-standing and cordial diplomatic relations. He said the two countries are now in a favourable position to further accelerate friendship and cooperation. The cooperation between the central governments of the two countries has been strengthened, while cooperation among their respective regions and states has also been expanding rapidly.

He also said Tuva is a region rich in mineral resources with well-developed agricultural and livestock sectors, while Myanmar is also endowed with abundant natural resources both above and below ground and has strong agricultural and livestock sectors. Therefore, he noted, there are considerable opportunities to further expand cooperation between Myanmar and Tuva.

He pointed out that Myanmar is a predominantly Buddhist country, while the majority of people in Tuva practise Tibetan Buddhism. This provides opportunities to promote pilgrimage and tourism between the two sides. He further explained that efforts are being made to further strengthen diplomatic relations in order to increase contacts and exchanges between the governments and peoples of the two countries. He also discussed in detail the prospects for further promoting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
