Myanmar authorities have continued demolishing illegal buildings used for online scams and gambling operations in the Shwe Kokko area.
Authorities
said three additional four-storey residential buildings were systematically
demolished using heavy machinery. The buildings were allegedly used in online
fraud and gambling activities.
A
joint task force comprising security personnel, administrative bodies and local
officials is carrying out inspections, clearing operations and destruction of
equipment seized from scam centres in Shwe Kokko and KK Park.
Officials
said a total of 77 illegal buildings had been identified for demolition,
including 57 structures to be destroyed by machinery and 20 by controlled
explosions. With the latest demolitions, nine buildings have now been
destroyed, while 68 remain pending demolition.
Authorities
added that Myanmar will continue cooperating with neighbouring countries to
prevent online scam operations from re-establishing inside the country.
