Online scam hub buildings demolished, offenders arrested

The government of Myanmar manages the combined team comprising security forces, administrative bodies and local authorities to raid illegal buildings in Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas where telecom fraud and online gambling activities are operated, and systematically dismantle the confiscated materials and illegal buildings used in the online scams and gambling activities.

Yesterday, the authorities demolished 20 illegal buildings in Section 3, and a total of 381 buildings out of 635 illegal buildings have so far been demolished in the KK Park area.

Similarly, authorities deported 71 Filipinos, 42 Ethiopians, one Egyptian and one Rwandan, totalling 115 individuals, through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II.

The combined team started searching operations in Myawady and its vicinity area starting 8 December, and found further 48 illegal buildings used for online gambling yesterday, and arrested four Ethiopians and four gambling materials in one building in 2nd Shwetaung Street, Ward 3, Myawady.

To prevent future reuse of the materials in online scams and gambling activities in KK Park and Shwe Kokko areas, the seized materials were incinerated systematically.

The government considers the eradication of telecom fraud and online gambling crimes as a national responsibility and, to ensure that such activities can no longer operate within Myanmar, will continue its efforts in coordination not only with domestic forces but also with the governments of neighbouring countries.
