Under the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Programme-3 (2025), Myanmar yesterday signed four Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) concerning additional rice donations for earthquake-affected communities. The agreements cover 3,000 tonnes of rice from the Republic of Korea and 275 tonnes from the People’s Republic of China, as well as rice contributions under the regular programme of 2,000 tonnes from the Republic of Korea and 375 tonnes from China.
The
MoAs were signed at Office 15 in Nay Pyi Taw by Director-General of the
Department of Agriculture Dr Ye Tint Tun and General Manager Dr Choomjet
Karnjanakesorn of the APTERR Secretariat. Officials from the Ministry of
Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation’s Planning Department, the Department of
Agriculture, and the APTERR Secretariat also attended the signing ceremony.
Following
the major earthquake, 3,000 tonnes of rice from the Republic of Korea and 500
tonnes from the People’s Republic of China had already been distributed to the
affected communities under APTERR Programme-3.
The
newly pledged rice – 3,000 tonnes from the Republic of Korea and 275 tonnes
from China – will also be distributed to communities affected by the
earthquake. Additionally, under the regular APTERR programme, 2,000 tonnes of
rice from the Republic of Korea and 375 tonnes from China will be released for
distribution in the event of natural disasters.
