The Myanmar delegation, led by Police Lt-Gen Win Zaw Moe, Chief of the Myanmar Police Force, attended the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly held in Morocco from 24 to 27 November.
The opening ceremony of the
assembly took place on 24 November, and Morocco’s Director-General of National
Security and Territorial Surveillance, Mr Abdellatif Hammouchi and INTERPOL
President Maj-Gen Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi made opening remarks, and the chiefs and
deputy chiefs of INTERPOL member countries, observation organizations from 181
countries, heads of National Central Bureau (NCB) and superior officials,
totalling about 800, attended the event.
The assembly approved the General
Agreement on the Privileges and Immunities of the ICPO-INTERPOL, and discussed
regarding signing, ratification and accession by all member countries, signing
of United Nations Convention against Cybercrime by all member countries as the
convention was approved on 24 December 2024 and close cooperation among
representatives of member countries with the National Central Bureau to promote
the role of INTERPOL in UN.
Moreover, the assembly approved
INTERPOL’s Strategic Framework 2026-2030, which sets out four goals- to become
a trusted global hub of information for the rule of law, to provide world-class
investigative and operational support, to play a leading role in global
rule-of-law processes, and to ensure that INTERPOL’s governance, financial
stability, staff capabilities, and ethical standards remain at the highest
level.
It also made decision to allow
participation of all member countries in each Regional Conferences, to provide
a forum to discuss the INTERPOL’s authorities at the regional conferences, to
review and made suggestion for data management framework and data management
supervisory mechanism by the Committee on the Processing of Data through
INTERPOL’s information system, and also approved the financial report and
statement for 2024, new statutory contributions scale for the period 2026-2028,
work plans of INTERPOL for 2026 and budget draft and budget estimation for
2027-2028.
The representatives from member
countries who had applied for the positions of Chair, Vice-Chairs, and members
of the INTERPOL Executive Committee, whose terms expire at the end of December,
were elected through a secret voting system.
The Myanmar delegation arrived back
yesterday evening.
