Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, accompanied by the Yangon Region Chief Minister, the commander of Yangon Command, deputy ministers and officials, yesterday morning met departmental officials and town elders in Cocokyun, Yangon Region, and inspected the progress of regional development initiatives.
At
the Cocokyun Airport, the Prime Minister was welcomed by departmental
officials, teachers and residents.
The
Prime Minister met departmental personnel at the office of the Township General
Administration Department in Cocokyun and members of social organizations and
town elders at the city hall to talk about regional development measures.
In
his speeches, the Prime Minister urged residents to strive to give greater
development as the government is enhancing the socioeconomic life of the people
in Cocokyun. He stressed that people need to produce coconut and coconut
products, as well as marine products, in addition to the value-added products
made of domestic mango and pineapple.
He
continued to say that the Head of State has emphasized the development of the
Cocokyun area and beautification in facilitating the town with construction of
the brick walls along the downtown road, paving of the circular asphalt road,
building of the jetty and expansion of the airport, arrangements for the TV
channels, breeding of cattle and installation of the telephone lines to ensure
smooth communications.
He
vowed to conduct the vocational courses such as coconut-based value-added
foodstuff and personal good production technological courses, domestic science
courses and tailoring courses.
The
Prime Minister unveiled the plans to reclaim farmlands and highland farmlands
for ensuring the local food security in Cocokyun, build dams and small-scale
embankments to irrigate farmlands, conduct feasibility studies for reclamation
of the cultivable lands for cocoa plants, coconut and bamboo groves and
substitute the overage coconut palms with the young ones in addition to
operation of poultry and pig farms and agricultural tasks on a manageable
scale.
As
such, he added that residents have to cooperate with departmental officials in
undertaking the development tasks of Cocokyun Township.
Furthermore,
he underscored that students, parents and teachers are to join hands to achieve
the high pass rates in raising the learning grades of students at primary,
middle and high school levels of the township, adding that all people have to
participate in holding the multiparty democratic general election successfully.
The
Prime Minister fulfilled the requirements of departmental personnel and town
elders and presented foodstuffs, quality seeds of crops, publications,
equipment and MRTV DTH Set Top Boxes to officials. After the meetings, the
Prime Minister cordially greeted residents.
The
Prime Minister donated alms to the abbot of Sasana Mandaing Monastery.
While
in Cocokyun, the Prime Minister inspected the supply of electricity at the
Cocokyun Solar Power Plant, and the sites chosen for the construction of a dam
to supply drinking and agricultural water for the people.
