National Unity Party (NUP) Chairman U Han Shwe presented policies, stances, procedures and other matters of the NUP through broadcast media (radio, MRTV) on the evening of 30 October. The full speech by the NUP chair is as follows: —
To
Esteemed voters,
Wishing
you good health and happiness!
I,
U Han Shwe, Chairman of the National Unity Party, would like to extend my
gratitude to the State officials and the Union Election Commission of the
Republic of the Union of Myanmar for allowing me to address our party’s
policies, stances and procedures through broadcast media. I’d like to express
my immense happiness to have a chance to engage directly with the voters who
will shape the future of our nation and people.
Esteemed
voters,
During
a brief explanation of the party, establishing a political party must have
fundamental, precise and strong political policy, a political spectrum,
political practices and organizational structure. Our party has a firm policy
guideline based on “for the well-being of the people”. Our party’s political
ideology is not the pursuit of individual and group self-interest, yet
prioritize the well-being and common interest of the majority or the entire
community, including distinct groups like farmers, workers, professionals and
business people. Our party upholds the principle that the people are our mother
and father, with a people-centric model of governance that prioritizes the
interests of citizens. The party’s ideas, concepts and practical actions are
not carried out with the conviction that they must not harm the public
interest, yet must bring the benefit of the people.
The
guiding principles of our party are “Myanmar Way for People’s Benefit”, clearly
stating that the policies set for the nation and people must be closely aligned
with the interests of the people, such as farmers, workers, intellectuals,
intelligentsia, business people and so on.
While
putting those policies and principles into practice, we must explore doctrines,
principles and practices in line with the Middle Way, acknowledging mistakes
and working to overcome them.
Our
party is the longest-standing political party with a dignified history in the
multiparty democratic system, marking its 37th anniversary on 24 September
2025. The long-standing history is built on the members’ affection, respect and
trust for the party, their perseverance, diligence, efforts and unity. Through
the long history, the party faced different challenges with calm and mature
presence and fostered qualities like tolerance, patience and forgiveness,
resulting in a positive outcome. Responding to criticism and fault-finding
directed at the party calmly, with resilience and mature approaches, resolved
problems amicably and increased the number of friends without enemies. In
dealing with officially registered parties under the Political Parties
Registration Law in the multiparty democratic system, we do not hold attitudes
of major parties or minor parties and treat all parties equally with respect
and work together.
Esteemed
voters,
Our
party, named after NUP, represents of variety of ethnic people, established
party committees in regions and states with members of ethnic groups actively
participating in the operations. A total of 103,745 out of 151,900 members
submitted in accordance with the rules and directives issued by the Union
Election Commission and were approved. The National Unity Party has also formed
township committees in 285 townships and district committees.
The
NUP commemorated events and days of significance (Independence Day, Union Day,
Workers’ Day, Peasants’ Day, International Women’s Day, International Youth
Day, including the anniversary of the party) at central committee headquarters
and offices in regions and states, with a view to strengthening patriotism,
religion, national unity and solidarity.
Esteemed
voters,
I
would like to address the topic of Peace and Stability across the nation.
Ethnic unity is a crucial prerequisite for peace and stability. Since the core
of our nation’s politics is national unity and solidarity, we must find a
bottom-up approach where different ethnic groups recognize this and come
together voluntarily to engage in a practical dialogue to achieve common goals.
NUP
fully embraces democracy and enormously believes in the federal system. Our
party has firmly established three stances related to our approach to the
ethnic people:
1.
Ensuring equality for all ethnic groups, without any special privileges for any
2.
Supporting cultural preservation and entity, ensuring each ethnic group thrives
and sustains its existence in terms of language, culture and tradition
3.
Achieving ethnic equity, uniform and balanced development
Esteemed
voters
Our
party’s conviction is that peace cannot be achieved through the accumulation of
weapons. Nonetheless, it comes through dialogue and intense negotiations. We
actively participated in drawing a political framework to secure the Nationwide
Ceasefire Agreement to pursue peace and national reconciliation through
political dialogue. We also joined the peace conferences at different levels.
The party vowed to continue to strive vigorously to foster peace and stability
across the nation.
Esteemed
voters
The
National Defence and Security Council and the Union Election Commission
announced that a multiparty democratic general election will be held on 28
December 2025 and in January 2026. I strongly believe that this election is
genuinely needed for the nation and the people. I anticipate it will contribute
to a certain degree of progress towards the nation’s stability and peace. I
would like to encourage people to participate in elections if they truly desire
democracy.
Democracy
and elections are inseparable like the head and tail of a coin. I earnestly
urged all voters to cooperate in ensuring a peaceful and inclusive election.
Our
party considers a successful election as its primary responsibility. We have
already submitted a list of 703 candidates standing for the NUP in the election
to the Union Election Commission to run for seats in Hluttaw, making the party
the second-largest party in terms of candidates competing across the nation.
NUP prioritized a balance in choosing candidates by identity characteristics
like gender, age and ethnicity.
Esteemed
voters
The
NUP has already respectfully and publicly clarified and declared the party’s
election manifesto to the people, pledging to improve access in various
sectors: economic system, political system, social affairs, education,
healthcare and socioeconomic inequalities if elected to office. We will
wholeheartedly welcome and accept the outcome of the election that will be
decided by the people. At a time when voters express their aspiration, I like
to mobilize voters and encourage them to cast a ballot for the National Unity
Party, featuring the symbol of the rice ear and pinion emblem.
May
people be endowed with physical health, well-being and happiness!
