Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.
On
1 and 2 May, the combined teams impounded 19 vehicles, travelling from Tachilek
to Taunggyi, carrying 65 kinds of industrial materials, 26 kinds of consumer
goods and a kind of foodstuff without official documents valued at K600.823
million in Hopong Township, a Toyota Noah (estimated value of K35 million),
heading to Mandalay from Monywa, carrying a kind of consumer goods valued at
K1.56 million without official documents at the Yadanabon bridge (Mandalay)
checkpoint, two vehicles (estimated value of K74 million), heading to Mandalay
from Taunggyi, carrying 14 kinds of consumer goods worth K23.383 million
without official documents and five trucks (approximately K187 million)
carrying 41 kinds of industrial materials worth K337.413 million without official
documents at the Htonbo (7th-mile) checkpoint. The action was conducted as per
Customs procedures.
Similarly,
the combined on-duty teams nabbed a kind of industrial materials valued at
K13.5 million without official documents from a warehouse by the side of
Kawkareik-Myawady Asia Highway, three kinds of industrial materials worth
K203.018 million without official documents from six containers at the Myanmar
Industrial Port, five kinds of consumer goods worth K2.132 million without
official documents from a passenger at the Yangon International Airport and a
Yutong bus (approximately K50 million), travelling from Hpa-an to Mandalay,
carrying five kinds of foodstuffs worth K5.05 million without official
documents at the Nyaungkhashay xray station. The action was taken following
Customs procedures.
In
additionally, the combined teams seized a kind of foodstuffs worth K9.69
million without official documents from a warehouse in Inlaymyaing Industrial
Zone in Myeik Township and five vehicles (approximately K355 million) carrying
16 kinds of industrial materials and four kinds of consumer goods valued at
K138.418 million without official documents near the Milepost Zero and 26/4 on
the expressway. The action was taken in line with Customs procedures.
The
Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 74 arrests on 1 and 2
May, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K2.985 billion.
