UNESCO is trying to safeguard the Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the World by inscribing the World Heritage List and the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity every year.
In
Myanmar, three Pyu ancient cities in 2014 and Bagan ancient city in 2019 were
inscribed on the World Heritage List. Moreover, Myanmar’s traditional New Year
Ata Thingyan festival was inscribed as The Representative List of Intangible
Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024.
The
practice of Thanaka Culture in Myanmar is now being strived to be inscribed in
the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. However,
the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture has noticed that some media are
now using the wrong usage as World Intangible Cultural Heritage and World
Heritage for Myanmar Intangible Cultural Heritage. Therefore, the Ministry
requests Myanmar people and media to use The Representative List of Intangible
Cultural Heritage of Humanity for Intangible Cultural Heritage in any social
media.
