Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin met rectors and pro-rectors of Yangon University, Yangon Technological University, Technological University (Thanlyin), the Professor Dean of Geology Department of Yenangyoung University, faculty members, retired officers of the ministry and other relevant experts at Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise, Lower Myanmar branch (Sein Lae May) yesterday.
During the
meeting, the union minister said the energy sector is the focal one for State
economic growth, and the ministry is working hard per the theme “2025, the Year
of Myanmar Energy” to ensure an innovative energy sector. The relevant
stakeholders will support building up the capacity of new geologist
generations, oil engineers and industrial and chemical engineers, and plans are
underway to offer scholarships to students of relevant subjects. Moreover, the
Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Energy will jointly open a four-year
degree in petroleum geology course at Yenangyoung University starting in the
2025 academic year. Moreover, the ministry will also arrange job opportunities
for the graduates.
Afterwards,
attendees reported on their respective subjects and tabled suggestions for a
better teaching system based on experience and knowledge.
The union
minister added that training of trainers (ToT) programmes for faculty members
of universities will be launched after the establishment of the Energy Skills
Training School in PyinOoLwin. There will be also a committee comprising
relevant stakeholders, and all should participate in developing the human
resources, essential for energy sector development.
