Farmers urged to expand sown acreage of oil crops


 

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw on 16 January inspected the supply of water from the right canal and its tributary of Wegyi Dam to farmlands in Paungde Township of Bago Region and left instructions on minimizing waste of agricultural water, and use of solar-powered pumping system and the automatic water turbine pump for the highland farmlands.

The deputy minister looked into 5,000 duck farms in Natpadee Village and thriving 150-acre cold-season black gram farms. He urged officials and farmers to broadly raise farmer awareness in growing crops using quality seeds and agricultural water supply to meet the standards. He fulfilled the needs of farmers and provided agricultural inputs for farmers who grow cold-season black gram.

In Pyay, the deputy minister met departmental officials at the Construction Task Force 2 of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department and stressed the need to grow the crops in the irrigated areas to meet the target production, operate triple crops and expand sown acreage of oil crops in addition to emphasizing development of the livestock sector through collaborative efforts of departmental personnel and local farmers.
