Training on pesticide residue analysis on agricultural products launched in Yangon

 



THE opening ceremony for a training course on Pesticide Residue Analysis on Agricultural Products was held yesterday morning at the Agricultural Products Testing Laboratory (APAL), a branch of the Department of Agriculture's Plant Protection Division in Insein Township, Yangon Region. APAL is certified under ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 standards.

Union Ministers U Min Naung, Dr Charlie Than and U Htun Ohn, Deputy Minister Dr Tin Htut, departmental officials, the course instructor, and 20 trainees attended the event.

In his speech, Union Minister U Min Naung addressed the excessive use of pesticides in Myanmar's agriculture, stressing the importance of reducing pesticide residues in food products to meet international standards and ensure public health. He encouraged the trainees to apply the skills gained during the training to lower pesticide residues in Myanmar’s agricultural exports, facilitating smoother trade in global markets.

Director-General of the Planning Department U Kyaw Swe Lin explained the objectives of the training, while the Director-General of the Department of Agriculture highlighted the laboratory's new ISO 17025 accreditation.

The five-day training, which runs from 24 to 28 November, is being attended by 20 participants from various government departments. The course aims to improve the safety of Myanmar’s agricultural products for export.
